|
John C. Berry was in Mobile for the 1860 Census.
He was born in 1827 in Georgia and had a Personal Estate of $500.
His occupation was listed as Book Keeper. He was married and had
four children at home. As a married man, he had lived in Virginia
and Louisiana, as well as Alabama. He served as a Quartermaster in
General Scott's Army during the Mexican War. |
Berry is repeatedly referred to
as Captain or Major, but no record of his being so appointed has
been found and he is not on the published list of Quartermasters in
1864. |
