I learn from one of your friends that
application will be made for your permanent official appointment to the
position of Chief of Transportation at Mobile. I cannot doubt the
application will be successful, if your peculiar fitness for the post is
made known at Richmond. |
To this end, & shall take great pleasure in
adding my testimony to those of your Mobile friends, in this or any
other shape. My position as Post Quarter Master at Meridian for more
than a year past has compelled me to become intimately acquainted not
only with your very unusual qualification for that complex and
troublesome situation, but with your peculiarly favorable disposition
for its satisfactory discharge, in the interests of the Government, as
well as the pleasantness of the officers and men of the army. I shall be
very happy to hear of your permanent appointment believing as I do that
the interests of the service will be promoted thereby. |
Should my testimony to your fitness in some
other shape than this be desired expedient, pray let me know. |
Very truly |
