My Dear Sir, |
I take pleasure in introducing to your
acquaintance Col. H. B. Holcombe an old & esteemed Citizen of Mobile and
well known to my father. |
One of the objects of Col. Holcombe's
visit to Richmond is to urge the claims of his nephew Mr. J. C. Berry of
this City to an appointment in the Quartermaster Department of this
District. |
Mr. J. C. Berry has acted as
transportation agent in the Quartermaster Department at Mobile since the
commencement of the War, and from his intelligence, energy and
promptness, in the performance of his duties has given general
satisfaction. In all his transactions with Mount Vernon Arsenal as agent
of transportation, he has given me the most entire satisfaction; Mr
Berry has also kindly rendered assistance to my mother in the
transaction of her business affairs. |
In my opinion, Mr. J. C. Berry is
perfectly qualified in every respect to fill any station to which he may
be appointed in the Quartermaster Department. Mr Berry is obliging, ??gatie,
and prompt, in all his business transactions, and his services have been
of great value to the Country in the position which he now fills. |
Any service you may have it in your power
to render Mr Berry will greatly oblige. |
Yours truly |
Matt. Gayle |
