Since W. C. Finley was never
in the Confederate Army there is no biography of him in the National
Archives. Below is my biography of him.
|
William C. Finley is found in the
1860 Census in Catahoula County, Louisiana. He was 56 years old
(born about 1804 in South Carolina). He had $2,000 Real Estate and
$300 Personal Estate and had the occupation of Planter. He married
Minerva
in about 1847. She and their 7 children were all
born in Louisiana. (E. L. Heriot is another example of a South
Carolinian who moved to Louisiana to run a family plantation.) |
W. C. is mentioned in his
county's newspaper in 1858. His census location was only about 25
miles from the Mississippi River and he may have left for safety.
There were many Finley's in South Carolina and he probably went
there in order to get help for his family from relatives. |
