William H. I'Anson has
a biography in the National Archives. Entries in blue are references
and my additions
|
I'Anson was appointed a
Quartermaster from the State of Florida. There are, however, no
entries for him in the 1860 census or in any found newspaper. Since
he was appointed directly to the rank of Major and was made
Paymaster for Florida, it is safe to assume he was older than most
soldiers and was a man well-known. A list of college students shows
a man of that name in a medical school in Petersburg in 1840. On
November 30, 1860, a Dr. William H. I'Anson had provided deeds of
trust to an auction house to sell the Petersburg Bulletin newspaper.
If the doctor is the future Transportation Agent, why is he listed
by the Army as being from Florida? Unfortunately, most search
engines for newspapers cannot handle the " I' ". One
researches claims he was born about 1812 in Virginia. |
