The National Archives'
biography for George G. Hull is only a single entry since he was not
really in the military.
Blue entries are my biography.

George Gilmer Hull was born in Clarke
County, Georgia in 1829. He was a civil engineer, beginning with a
time as Resident Engineer of the Western & Atlantic Railroad in the
early 1850's. He became Superintendent of the Atlanta & LaGrange
Railroad (name changed to Atlanta & West Point RR} in 1856. He
married Mary Alexander 1854, and they had two
daughters, though only one appears to have survived childhood. |
After the war, in late 1866, he
left the Atlanta & West Point RR and formed a railroad construction
company which built the Macon & Augusta RR in 1869-1871. In 1868, he
was appointed the Receiver for the bankrupt Wilmington & Manchester
RR. In late 1872, he was appointed to make a new appraisal of the
Western & Atlantic RR for the Governor of Georgia. By 1880, he had
moved his family to New York, where he was listed as a Director of a
new railroad being constructed in Colorado. He died in New York in
1885, after a short illness, at the age of 56. |
George was reported to be short
and white haired, like all the men in his family, from an early age.
He is buried in Savannah. |
There are very few Atlanta & West
Point RR documents from the war. The only ones mentioning Hull as
Transportation Agent are the August 31, 1861 and April 19, 1862
documents. I believe his Agent duties were taken over by
Quartermasters as the Quartermaster Department grew in numbers in
early 1862. |
