2 Gerty came in with me. Col. Wadley called at the Shops and informed me that the Secretary of War had ordered the Shops closed and the material and property in my charge to be turned over to him. At once notified all hands of the order and when the ????? for dinner I disbanded the force, much to my regret. It is much against the interests of the cause as time will prove.

11 Went to Columbia with Mr. Johnston, at his request. Arrived at 5 pm and stopped at ??ner House
12 Dined with Col. Blanton Duncan and accepted the position of the Superintendent of the Charlotte & South Carolina RR
13 Left at 6 pm for Charlotte
