Washington County Bridge Description
The below Houston, Tex. Weekly Telegraph, of December 1, 1860, gives a description of the major bridge on the Washington County road. It is mentioned several times in Trans-Mississippi documents as needing ad being given repairs.

The Railroad bridge across the Brazos on the Washington county railroad is said to be unsurpassed in workmanship by any bridge in the United States. It is sixty feet above low water level, and has a clear span of 260 feet. It is calculated to sustain a weight of 2 tons to the running foot, which is more than can ever be put upon it. The heaviest weight that could be run across it would be forty ton locomotives. There are no locomotives in Texas above 28 tons, and no train will ever pass over the road which can bring more than 100 tons upon the space at a time. Messrs. Pride & Boomer will establish a reputation by this bridge, which ought to give them the refusal of every bridge contract in the state.
