Atlantic was purchased from Richmond & York River RR and Tecumseh was purchased in February from Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac RR. In March, Locomotive Number 1 is listed as having run 122 miles; it was probably rented from Manassas Gap RR (see next note). |

Washington, Jefferson Davis, and Holden Rhodes
were captured engines purchased from the Confederate government. Holden Rhodes
was Baltimore & Ohio RR locomotive
No 231; Jefferson Davis was probably No. 235. Washington was captured from Pope. Two
additional locomotives were rented from the Manassas Gap RR (one in April
and the other in August) (three locomotives -- Numbers 1-3 -- are shown in
the chart accompanying that statement). Jeff Davis exploded in July.
One locomotive was rented from the Manassas Gap RR for several weeks in March. |
