The Petersburg RR shops were about a
mile south of the town. The building in the back is the "round"
house. At the left front is a platform car. The frame works in the
center are the initial work on new passenger cars. The photo was
taken shortly after the capture of the city in April, 1865. |

The same location and day as the photo
at the top of the page. The "round" house is the left building. The
right building was a car shed, where cars were kept out of the
weather between runs. Just to the left of the car shed is the back
end of a passenger car (probably the only war-time photo of a
Confederate passenger car). |
