Under General Orders No. 26, A. and I. G.
Office, current series, and instructions of the Bureau of Conscription,
Charles Ellis President of the Richmond & Petersburg Railroad is exempt
from military service in the army of the Confederate States, until
further orders, so long as he shall continue in the employment of said
Rail Road -- the necessity for his exemption being certified to by the
President of said Rail Road, under oath, as indispensable to the
efficiency operation of said Road, as required by Act of Congress,
entitled "An Act to organize forces to serve during the war," approved
February 17th, 1864. This exemption shall cease whenever the President
or Superintendent of said Rail Road shall fail to make to this Office
the monthly report and certificate on oath, as required by law. |
