Dear Sir, |
The general impending prospect
-- the present military requirements, and the stringent nature of my
private affairs -- impel me to enquire of you, if you desire to retain
my services in the position I now hold -- and if so -- whether or not
you have sufficient assurance, that you will be able to procure them in
any other manner than by entering my name upon one or other of the
exemption lists. |
My detail as you are aware was
given upon the P. R-Road {Petersburg RR}
until the 1st of March 1864, and it not having been renewed at the
expiration of that time. I have since been content to let the matter
rest, upon the principle of not troubling the Government, so long as the
Government did not interfere my present amount of liberty. This
arrangement, I now fear, however, will not be much longer assented to by
the stronger party, and hence I would like to make preparation to meet
its anticipated demands. |
Respectfully |
Wm A Stith |
