Dear Sir, |
In hand recd your favors of 23d, 30th & 31st ulto &
telegrams of 3d & this date. ??? of 3d came after the Train of the
Seaboard & Roanoke Road had left & the frody(?) for that Co. have not
since been called for. In hope your own train will soon be here & ready
to receive the supplies. J W Westmoreland has paid us for you $80.14 in
specie & $280.53 in currency in full for bill rendered on 16th ulto. |
The Collector here says he has recd no advice or
instructions from the Treasy Departt in reference to the new Act
exempting Rail Road transportation from duties, that he cannot act
without such instructions even with the certified Copy of the law before
him. He will not however hinder the loads from being forwarded & only
requires us to render with obligation to comply with the Law after he
hears from the Department. |
The remittance of $107,000 by Express came to hand on 3d
inst & is at your Credit. So much of it as is required will be applied
to the Settlement of the bill of payment for "Lynx." We have shown your
letter of 31st ????? Mr ?umerlands, & after the consulting with him,
have con? refer the matter to Miss Jas Fraser & Co. when an to ??? Chief
??? of the Owners. It is remarkable that Majr Walker has not advised you
as to his ??? for returning into the Central to pay the freight in
Sterling ??? doubt if the arrangement can be changed without hearing
from him. |
You, truly |
