I enclose you copy of resolution of the Board of
Directors of this company as requested.

I desired W. E. Wilkes to state in writing that he had
made Ineffectual efforts to procure shovels elsewhere before calling
upon me. We have not so many as you call for and I dislike in view of
the very slow progress of the work to make heavy requisitions upon the
government for such articles.

You will please state the exact number absolutely
required. |

I have requested that ten kegs of blasting powder shall
be made subject to your order at Raleigh. |
