| My dear Colonel, |
| Owing to absence from
Milledgeville I did not receive until now your letter of the 18
ultimo, offering us 1500 Austrian rifles with bayonets. The Governor
will take them as a part of the arms due the State on former account. |
| Please let us have them as
soon as you can, as all the State Troops are on the line of the Road
in rear of General Bragg's army {the Western
& Atlantic RR} and protecting his line of communication. |
