His Excellency |
Gov. Jos. E. Brown |

Dear Sir, |
Mr. Lewis will start at once
to make the alteration in the Line as desired by you. I will afford
him every facility in my power for its speedy completion, and will
place an instrument at Gordon, until completed, so that your telegraph
communication may not be broken. The rules of our Company require each
office to notify "Augusta" every morning of the hour office
is opened & ready for business. This message is sent first thing
on opening office & should line be down, the carrying out of this
rule, prevents delay, as the operator finding Line down , should at
once take steps to repair it. Also before closing at night the
operator should bid both Savannah & Macon "Good night"
before closing so that no business of that date may be left over. As
soon as Mr. Lewis makes examination of Line & is ready to proceed
with the work (which will be in one or two days) I will telegraph you,
when it will be necessary for you to secure such aid from the Central {(of
Georgia)} R. R. Co in the way of cars for poles &c as will
be needed. The change will be alike beneficial to that Road. |
Very Respy Yrs |
