To His Excellency |
Joseph E Brown Governor |
Milledgeville Ga |
|
Dear Sir, |
Mr Cuyler received a dispatch
on Saturday from E B Walker Esqr Master of Transportation W&A RR,
asking in your name, that the Central {(of
Georgia)} & So Western RRds would each send an engine &
cars to Memphis, to bring away from that place goods belonging to
citizens of Georgia. |
I have been instructed by Mr
Cuyler to inform Mr Walker (and have do so this day) that both Roads
will comply with the request, provided Your Excellency will guarantee
us against our trains being pressed into Government service and
diverted from the legitimate object of this mission, this object I
presume you can accomplish readily by enclosing to myself and also to
Mr Powers a paper stating that our trains are in your service, and not
to be diverted therefrom. |
Please enclose your answer to
me by our train of Monday night to Gordon, where I will meet it,
answer Mr. Powers to Macon by same train. |
Yours Very Respectfully |
Geo W Adams |
