Your letter 2 Inst has been
received and regret to have to inform you that I can render you no
assistance whatever in facilitating the shipment of corn for the
relief of your citizens. I would take pleasure in aiding you in your
patriotic efforts in supplying the needy with corn by giving you an
order to the R R Agt at Americus but could not be permitted (as a
government officer) to ask the Rail Road Companies to ship for private
parties, the practice once commenced might lead to very serious
abuses. |
I will however take the
liberty of referring your letter together with Mr Youngs statement to
Gov Brown and ask his co-operation in your behalf. |
