Dear Sir, |
***** |
The military authorities have {im}pressed
this road {Virginia & Tennessee RR} until
they get 100 car loads salt shipped, which will require about ten days
longer, hence we cant get any salt shipped at present This is
mortifying to me, knowing as I do that our people are suffering
for salt. The Supt. of this with Gov. Litcher, is to be here to-day or
to-morrow. When he arrives I will see him and endeavor to get him to
permit trains from other roads to run over his and carry off the salt
I have written to Dr. Lewis {Superintendent,
Western & Atlantic RR} on this
subject, and requested him to see if he could get permission from the
authorities at Richmond to ship our salt. If we can get permission. I
will telegraph Mr. Walker to send up a train provided we cant get one
from E. T. & Va. Road {East Tennessee
& Virginia RR} |

Yours truly |
