My dear Sir, |
The guards requested from you have been duly placed on
our trains, and the result has been most satisfactory in rebuilding
??? & order, but now that the req?? are to be moved from Griffin,
we will have to give these up. Cannot we have some all ?? made on the
Governor to place all the railroads in the state under martial law,
& to furnish men whose expenses would be borne by the several
railroads, to run on the trains (with uniforms & arms), to keep
order. My conductors complain daily of troubles with both officers
& men, & it is almost at the risk of their lives that they
enforce order. Soldiers can hardly travel with any degree of comfort,
and it seems to me that some remedy should be found for such a state
of things. Can you not help us in the matter. The Governor as head of
the principal rail road in Georgia is certainly interested.
