Brunswick |
Sept 30, 1861 |
|
To His Excellency |
Governor Joseph E. Brown |
|
Governor, |
Adj. General Wayne took charge
of the B&F. R. R. {Brunswick & Florida
RR} in your name on the 27th inst; and gave me the charge of of
the road as Supt: pro: tem: |
Three Locomotives are now
engaged carrying R. R. iron, passengers. |
It is absolutely necessary
that certain repairs for the safety of the road, should be made
at once, and that a force of at least 40 hands should be placed
on repairs, I have no rations for the hands. The Quarter Master of the
13th Reg: Georgia Volunteers, thinks that the supply of rations to the
Rail Road hands, may create some confusion, in his accounts. I have
however made arrangements with him to give us a weeks supply, until I
can hear from you. |
If you are willing, until
other arrangements can be made, I will attend to the rations of the
hands after the expiration of a week. |
I am Your |
excellencies |
Obedient servant |
Charles L. Schlatter |
|
Respectfully recommend to the
earnest attention of the Governor. The R Road is essential for he
defence of Brunswick Harbor and should as soon as possible be put in
safe running order. Col. Schlatter is working with great energy, but
is restricted for the want of means. The point of rendezvous should be
Waynesville. The reason for saying so I will give in another
communication. |
