Brunswick Sept 26th 1861

To His Excellency
Governor Joseph E. Brown

Governor,
The stockholders of the Brunswick & Florida Rail Road met yesterday with a full representation.
Resolutions were passed unanimously, authorising the Directors to request you to take charge of this Rail Road, upon the terms you named to Dr McDonald and myself.
The stockholders elected unanimously the following board-
James F. King Wayne Ry
Nelson Tift A Maury
N. Dart Sr Brunswick
James F. Blain Mayor of Brunswick
Dr R. McDonald Wanesboro
Charles Day Macon
Today the Board met, and elected me President and Treasurer, with full power to arrange with your Excellency the terms upon which the road should be placed in your charge.
If I might be permitted to suggest I would say, that the sooner hyou take the road, and assume its direction, the better it will be in a military point of view. We have neither the means or the credit left to keep it up, and I am now having its repairs, actually required to pass the trains; done, under the hope that you will advance the small sums they will require, and charge to the company.
I have the authority of the Board to sell the Rail Road iron now in Brunswick, for the purpose of liquidating the debts of the Company.
The resolutions of the stockholders and the Board, will be sent to you at Atlanta.
I will to pr?? at Savannah having heard that you would be there the last of this week.
I have the honor to be
Your Excellencies
obedient Servant
Charles A Schlatter
Pres: B & F. R. R, Co
