Sir, |
I wish to purchase for the
use of the Confederate States, all the Rails, chairs and spikes and
scrap iron belonging to the Florida Rail Road Company, now on the line
of their Road or its branches, or about its Depots and Shops. |
For the serviceable Rails we
will pay one hundred and seventy five dollars per ton of 2240 lbs; for
unserviceable rails, seventy five dollars per ton of 2240 lbs; for
chairs and spikes, sixteen cents per pound, for scrap iron three cents
per pound. |
Or if you prefer it the
Confederate States will replace the above named articles six months
after the conclusion of the war with the United States, with seven per
cent per annum interest on the above price, or seven per cent. per
annum additional material. Payment for the above named articles, will
be made in Confederate currency, by certificate payable in Richmond
Va. The above named property is necessary for the use of the Army, and
this offer is made under authority from the Secretary of War. |
Should you decline these
terms, compensation will be made for the property, according to the
Act of Congress made for the regulation of Impressments. |
Should you desire to sell the
Rolling Stock of the Company, the Confederate States will purchase
that also upon such terms as we may be able to agree upon. |
