Your letter of the 10th inst to Capt
Pettit in relation to the engine and Rail road iron has been referred
to me. |
I presume that the engine can be obtained
from the Navy Dept. I have written the Secty on the subject. |
The iron you require cannot be had nearer
than 20 miles west of Jackson Miss. I am informed that there is about
80 tons of flat bar there {a bit over 1 mile,
both tracks} but it will have to be hauled 25 miles.
Although it has been promised me I can get none. |
