Dear Sir, |
have just returned from Lime
Kilns {on the Alabama & Tennessee River RR}, found 7 car loads of coal ready to come up over our
road {the Shelby Iron Company RR}, and
more were looked for every moment the cars were pretty well loaded
& very good coal so wrote a note to Andrews
{Assistant Superintendent, Alabama & Tennessee Rivers RR} stating that the mill
was idle for want of coal. Also telegraphed him to send train at once.
Cant say when the train will be up, owing to a collision of a down
train with the through frt. yesterday near Ashley. Am told that neither
locomotive will be able to run for several days. Another crippled
train passed down this morning. So after such a combination of
accidents cant say what day the train of coal will be over our road.
tomorrow I hope. will try & come down tomorrow would come this
evening but can get no horse to ride & it is too muddy to walk |
Yours |
