Sir, |
I am instructed by the Government to give
preference in all Iron contracts to the making of Rail Road Iron, and
to urge on your Company the necessity of preparing your works to roll
Rail Road Rails. I have therefore to request that you will inform me
whether you will undertake this business and when you can commence it,
and at what price you can furnish the Rails &c. If you can
commence speedily & at a price that can be agreed on, one half the
rolled Iron you have agreed to furnish the Government will be received
in Rail Road Rails, Chairs, Spikes, and Fish bars and two thousand
tons per annum of the Pig Iron will be added to it, making the amount
of Rolled Iron to be received from you, one half of your entire
contract, Say Two thousand tons in ordinary Bar & Rod Iron &
Four thousand tons in Rail Road Rails, Chairs, Spikes, and Fish bars.
I should be pleased to hear from you in reply at your earliest convenience. |
With much Respect |
