Dear Sir, |
Yo 12th inst is before me. Mr.
Robinson has succeeded Genl Rodes as Chief Engineer of our Road
{Northeast & Southwest Alabama RR} and
gives very general satisfaction. Besides this we are making very little
indeed no progress at present in the construction of the road. Should
negotiations now on foot succeed of which I have strong hopes we will
soon resume and prosecute with energy the further construction of the
road to final completion. In that work your services may be needed. |
What is the present condition
of the Wills Valley Road? What your prospect of obtaining Iron? From a
letter of Col. Winstone to my predecessor he said he expected to procure
the iron necessary to continue track laying from a rolling mill in
Chattanooga to be completed this Spring. What is the state of the mill &
what the prospect for Rails &c? You will oblige me by giving me the
above & any other information as to the present condition & future
prospects of the road. |
I have written two letters to
Col. Winston as to matters pertaining to the road but have not had an
acknowledgement of either. |
