Dear Sir, |
I have had a letter from the
War Dept. saying that my letter was "so satisfactory to the Secretary of
War, that he would not interfere to prevent a lease to your road or any
road we may deem proper. In my letter to the Dept I assured them no
lease was contemplated or would be made to any Company that could not &
would not afford to the Govt all facilities that had been or could be
furnished by the Ala. & Missi R. R. R. Co. of which the Govt could have
apple {ample?} assurances & guaranties. |
At a recent meeting of our
Board held 4 hurt, I was instructed to demand possession and
compensation of the Ala & Missi R. R. R. Co. for which purpose I send a
special agent this morning. |
I write that you may be in
readiness to run the road in event they may determine to give us
immediate possession, which they will no doubt do if they supposed they
could embarrass us thereby. |
I will be pleased to hear from
you before leaving for Richmond. Will leave in about ten days. |
Very Respectfully |
Yr. Obt. Svt. |
