Dear Sir, |
You will permit me to call your attention
to the Southern Pacific R. R. and its claims now upon the state. We
have for months past labored faithfully though under many difficulties
to further this enterprise. I hope that you will find the reports
connected with such as to secure for it the aid of the state. This aid
promptly extended will enable the Company to do much for the
enterprize in what way Maj. Holman will fully explain to you. The
labor required in building railroads in this section of the state as
you are well aware is much greater than over the ??? level prairie of
the m?s? state I believe from all the information that I can gather
that the S. P. R. R. Co. has come as near living up to the letter and
spirit of the law as any company that has applied for the state aid. I
take pleasure Sir in endeavoring what is stated to you by Mr. Lanyheny
& Maj. Blanche as to the standing and integrity to Dr A. C.
Martin, who acted as engineer in examining the work on the Road and
fully believes all that is stated by Maj. Blanche as to his
qualifications as engineer. I have known CN Martin for several years
and have during that time heard him often referred to as a skilful
engineer and known him occasionally to step from his selected work of
a private gentleman in the country to take upon himself the duties of
an engineer on R. Roads & for other purposes. |
