Dear Sir, |
The H. & T. C. R. R. {Houston
& Texas Central RR} was sold at Sheriff Sale on the 2nd
April & bought by D. H. Paige & the writer. |
There was an application filed by the Co
before the sale for a loan on five miles of Road. With this loan it
was intended to pay the interest due on former loans. It has been said
that the reason the money could not be had was that the N. O. road {Texas
& New Orleans RR} had an application on file ahead of the
application made by the Central, for a loan on their road this side of
the Trinity. There is some mistake in this as the N. O. Co have issued
a Bond on their road $6000 per mile in lieu of the loan from the
state. I am one of the Trustees & have signed about 1/2 of the
Bonds. |
I have also heard that the Harrisburg Co.
have an application for a loan but subsequent to the Central. |
I know nothing of the correctness of this
statement -- if the Central is not entitled to the loan, I will pay
the interest just as fast as possible. I hope you will consent to
receive it in ??? of $2000 or more till it is paid. The earnings are
very small at present. |
I have but from the old Co. wood, ties
amounting to about $15,000 & have agreed to pay the amount in the
debt due to Laborers. This debt amounts to about $27 or $28000. I have
paid nearly the whole receipts to this time to this class of debt. |
If the loan fails, I will give attention
to the state interest at once. |
Will you be kind enough to write me. |
Yours vry Respy |
