General Orders No. 12 |
|
In obedience to orders received from
Major-General [George Washington] Jones, Chattanooga, from and after
the date of this order, no passports will be granted to any person to
visit any of the following places on the Atlanta & West Point
Railroad, viz.: Fairburn, Palmetto, Newman, and Grantville, including
all intermediate stations along said road; also the Macon &
Western Railroad to the following places, viz.: Jonesborough, Fayette
Station, and Griffin, including all intermediate stations along said
road, The ticket agent in this city is hereby ordered not to sell
tickets to any person to visit Palmetto, Newman and Grantville, or any
intermediate stations or points on the Atlanta & West Point
Railroad, nor to Jonesborough, Fayette Station or Griffin on the Macon
& Western Railroad, or any intermediate station or point on said
road. And the agents at all the above named towns on both these
roads are also hereby ordered not to sell tickets indiscriminately at
those places, unless vouched for by well-known citizens, that they
have not been anywhere near the districts infected with smallpox.
Conductors of passenger or freight trains are also ordered not to stop
at Palmetto or Grantville with their trains. |
The above restrictions are rendered
imperatively necessary, from the fact that the smallpox has made its
appearance, and, in some instances, has assumed a violent form at
points contiguous to these towns and stations on the above named
roads. Guards will be placed upon the cars, and at the several towns
above designated, to enforce the observance of these regulations. |
