I have yours of the 9th inst ordering transportation
for twenty thousand (20000) troops from Kingsville & Columbia to
be certain there should be no delay I immediately stopped all our
trains except the mail day passenger & sent all trains to
Columbia & Kingsville. Yesterday I recd a telegram from Quarter
Master here to furnish transportation from Charleston for twelve
hundred (1200) men I ordered down two (2) trains & then I am
told the troops will go via Savannah to relieve our road this is
rather an embarrassment than relief the troops have all gone from
Kingsville & Columbia promptly so far I am at a loss to know why
the troops were turned through Charleston are the balance that were
intended for Kingsville to be turned via here please telegraph me |
