Colonel Wood, of Knoxville, writes that last night Hiwassee bridge and two other bridges of
railroad near Chattanooga
were burned. Attempt on Strawberry Plains bridge failed. No cars
from the east; feared that the Union bridge is destroyed. I sent one
regiment to Knoxville. Carroll's brigade, ordered to report to me, not heard from. |
