| I send [S. R.] Gist's and [W. H. T.] Walker's brigades, best troops {about 5,000 men},
and two batteries {a requirement for about 125
cars -- some 8 trains}. Keep them together, if practicable, under Gist.
They will go by Selma
and Mobile {by river boat from
Selma to Mobile, then Mobile & Ohio RR to Meridian, and Southern
of Mississippi RR to Vicksburg}. Give all assistance possible. |
