Union Bridge {East
Tennessee & Virginia RR} |
The Knoxville Register says
the bridge across the Holston river at Middletown, known as Union
bridge, was burned by a party of Lincolnites, forty or fifty in
number, from Carter county. They captured the sentinel, and carried
him a mile and a half when they made preparations to hang him, but at
the intercession of one of the party, he was released upon taking the
oath of allegiance to Lincoln's Government. |
