Strasburg Connection |
"In the Virginia House of
Delegates, on the 14th inst., Mr. Kauffman, of Frederick, asked leave
to withdraw the petition of the citizens of the Valley of Virginia
praying for a charter to extend the Winchester & Potomac R. R. to
Strasburg. What does this mean? Is the project abandoned?" Clarke
Conservator |
The project is not
abandoned. On the contrary, it is confidently expected that the
present session of the Legislature will be signalized by the passage
of a measure so essential both to the prosperity and security of this
part of the Old Dominion. |
Mr. Kauffman's move was
doubtless a parliamentary one, for the purpose of placing the petition
in question before a committee, before the Senate, to give it a new
direction, or some other object of that kind. |
The extension of the
Winchester & Potomac Railroad to Strasburg is too obvious an act
of justice to the enterprising farmers of the middle Valley to be
longer delayed; and, in addition to this great consideration, it is
now indispensable as a defensive means of communication between
distant sections of the State. |
