Rail Road Accident |
We learn that the down express
mail train on the Wil. & Weldon Rail Road {Wilmington
& Weldon RR} was thrown from the
track, near the 26 mile post, by the breaking of the wheel of a
Petersburg R. R. freight car containing corpses. One man (whose name
we have not been able to ascertain) sitting on the platform of a car
was instantly killed, being thrown off and his neck broken. One other
person injured we learn not seriously. The cars were much broken up
and the road obstructed. |
The regular mail train that
should have left at 2 o'clock did not leave until about 8 o'clock this
morning. The road is now cleared of the wreck caused by the disaster
yesterday afternoon. Col. Fremont returned from the wreck at 3 o'clock
this morning, bringing in the mail and passengers. |
