Our Rail Road |
The cars of the Wilmington and
Rutherford Railroad {Wilmington, Charlotte &
Rutherford RR} arrived at Lincolnton on Saturday last. A large
concourse were in attendance, though no demonstration was intended.
This was an evidence of a will, and a way, and, at the same time a
credit to the skill and ability of the gentlemen who have its
superintendence. Yes, the cars are at Lincoln; when will they be at
Shelby? We will tell you. The company have 150 hands on the road, most
of which is now graded, besides the hands of some five or six
gentlemen who have contracts, then we promise, under the facts
presented to us, that the cars will arrive here by the 25th of
December, and if we do not mistake the spirit of our people we will
have a "Merry Christmas." We will then invite our friends of
York (God grant we may be confederated with them at that time) of
Lincoln, of Rutherford and Polk, and "the rest of mankind,"
to do us a little homage. We will extend the hand of fellowship; will
you accept it? |
