There is a screw loose in the
transportation of mail matter somewhere, or by some officials on the
Wilmington & Manchester Railroad. We have lately heard of letters being
ten days on the route from Wilmington to Cheraw, and we know of a case
where a letter is postmarked Sumter, S. C., April 13th, (146 miles from
Wilmington, direct route,) which was received this morning, the 18th
inst. We never like to allude to such things, but really it does appear
that there is great dereliction of duty somewhere, and we do trust that
things of this sort will be more carefully attended to. |
