The real difficulty with the
Confederacy is transportation. It is the want of transportation that
makes corn worth five times as much here as it is in Montgomery,
Alabama, or in many places in Georgia. There is enough food in the
Confederacy to save the people from extortion in particular places, if
it could only be sent to the points where it is most needed Whether
there is any possibility of doing this, we cannot say. Certainly the
railroads and the government should work so as to do the most that can
be done for the people in this respect. |
