We learn that the gross receipts of this road
for the fiscal year ending 30th Sept. 1864, were |
$3,010,039.97 |
|
Expenditures |
1,864,224.34 |
|
Nett Receipts |
$1,145,815.63 |
|
"
1863 |
$ 809,652.67 |
|
Increase for 1864 |
$ 336,162.96 |
|
|
The gross receipts for 1863
were $1,402,831, over which the gross receipts for 1864 show an increase
of $1,607,208.37, while the net receipts for the same time show as above
only an increase of $336,162.96. This is due to the immense increase in
the cost of all labor and materials which has swelled the expenditures
in ratio far exceeding that attained by the increase of receipts. The
government is the great employer of Railroads, and its rate of
compensation in the present state of the currency is not much more than
nominal. |
