Destruction of Rail Road Bridges and
Telegraph Wires by the Enemy |
Richmond, Va. Nov. 9th, 1861 |
Reliable intelligence has been
received here that several bridges on the Rail Road from Atlanta,
Georgia, to Chattanooga, Tennessee, also on the rail way through East
Tennessee, have been burned. It was evidently a preconcerted movement.
The telegraph wires on those routes have been removed at several
points. |

Lynchburg, Va. Nov. 9th, 1861 |
The bridge, about two hundred
span, on the East Tennessee {& Virginia} Rail Road, ten miles beyond Bristol, was
burned about four o'clock this morning, by the Unionists; half a mile
of the track of the Rail Road was also destroyed. It is reported that
several other bridges were burned on the Road south of Knoxville. No
trains arriving and the telegraph wires being destroyed, makes it
difficult to ascertain the extent of the damage. |
