Fire in Columbia |
A fire occurred in Columbia on
Wednesday night last, at the Depot of the Charlotte & S. C. Railroad,
destroying a storehouse of the Company and its contents. The Carolinian
says the fire originated from a coal of fire dropped from a torch by a
negro who went into the house after night for some purpose. The house
contained a vast amount of valuable goods, such as machinery, oil,
shoes, tools, bacon. leather and other articles imported for the Char. &
S. C. Road and Hamburg Road {Columbia & Augusta RR}.
The Carolinian estimates the loss at one million of dollars. |
