In accordance with the agreement made
between Lieutenant-General Pemberton and his Excellency, Governor
Pettus, now previous for the local defense of the State against
marauding parties of the enemy. I have been authorized by the Governor
to raise and organize Companies of Mounted Gunmen for the protection
of the Line of {the Southern (of Mississippi} Rail
Road from Vicksburg to Clinton Depot and the Country adjacent. These
Companies must be composed of men exempt from Confederate and State
service and each man must arm and equip himself at his own expense. |
The following gentlemen, Volunteer Aides,
will en-roll the names of all who may volunteer (as well as those who
do not, at the respective places to which they are by these orders
assigned: |

Bovina and Warren County, Mississippi |
|
As soon as Companies reach the number of
Forty men they will be promptly reported to these Head Quarters, then
the organization will be perfected and duties assigned. |
