The 5th and 7th Illinois and the 2nd Iowa
Cavalry, from Fifteen Hundred to Two Thousand men, with One Battery of
Six Pounders, entered Hazlehurst at 12:00 o'clock today. The Jackson
Train {New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern
RR} arrived a few minutes after. The Engineer was fired at,
backed the Train and escaped. Colonel Grierson commands the
