| Six of the rifled Parrott guns recently
purchased for the use of the state, were sent to Norfolk on Thursday
last by order of the governor, over the Norfolk & Petersburg railroad.
The cannon spoken of are of the most effective kind known, and are
designed to aid in the defence of that city, whose vicinity may become
the theatre of some stirring events ere long. It is not to be doubted
that Virginia, in the exercise of her sovereignty, will feel called upon
to expurgate all remnants of the existence of any government inimical to
her own, which, when the time comes for action, she will do to amoral
certainty. |
