| Mobile and Ohio Telegraph Company |
| The {Mobile}
Advertiser of Friday make the following important announcement: |
| The Mobile and Ohio Telegraph Company was
duly organized yesterday, under a favorable charter granted by the
states of Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky, with authority
to construct a line of telegraph on the Mobile & Ohio railroad and its
branches. The subscription made to the capital stock is sufficient to
construct the entire line, and we understand the company have made the
necessary arrangements for a sufficient quantity of wire and insulators,
and the Mobile & Ohio railroad have cut and distributed the poles to
complete the line between Mobile and Meridian. There is already a line
in operation from Meridian to New Orleans, Vicksburg, Memphis and other
western cities so that if Lincoln' gunboats destroy the line between
this city and New Orleans, we shall not be long without telegraph
communication with that city. We understand that the Southwestern
Telegraph company have started a manufactory of wire at Nashville,
Tenn., which will make the remainder of the wire necessary to complete
the line to Jackson, Tenn., from which point to Columbus, Ky., there is
a line along the railroad. The poles between this and Meridian have
already been cut and distributed. The railroad company are setting them,
and they will offer every facility and assistance to the telegraph
company in constructing the line. |
