Verdict of Damages Against a Railroad Company |
A suit for damages of $50,000, instituted
by Mr. Adolphe Choppin (brother of our celebrated surgeon Dr. Samuel
Choppin) against the Carrollton railroad company, which has been on
trial several days before the Sixth district court, Judge Howell
presiding, terminated yesterday. A verdict awarding the plaintiff
$25,000 was rendered. Mr. Choppin was so badly injured by a collision
that occurred some months ago on the road, through the fault of John
Sullivan, one of the engine drivers, (who fled from New Orleans) that
amputation of the left leg was rendered necessary. |
