Convention of Stockholders of the Milledgeville R. R.
Co. |
The convention assembled at the City Hall,
in Augusta on Monday the 17th. |
The following Board of Directors say the
Augusta papers were elected for the ensuing year: |
Jno. P. King, Benj. H. Warren, Stephen D.
Heard, Robt. H. May, Henry H. Cumming, Wm. H. Goodrich, Jno. D. Smith,
Henry Moore, M. H. Welborn, Thos. I. Turner, O. G. Sparks, B. B.
Degraffenreid. |
At a subsequent meeting of the Board of
Directors, Hon. Jno. P. King, was re-elected President, and W. Milo
Olin, Esq., Secretary and Treasurer. |
When the direct Railroad from Augusta to Columbia, S.
C., now near completion, shall be finished, we shall not be surprised
if the Milledgeville road is not next taken in hand by the Government
as a military necessity. Gen. Beauregard on his late visit here,
viewing with the eye of an engineer, the great want of this road,
intimated it might become necessary. With the filling up the gap
between Danville, Va. and Lexington, N. C. and that from Columbia, S.
C. to Augusta, the Milledgeville Railroad, directly on South, is the
only link left to complete the through connection. This road the
public interest demands. |
