The Draft in Chatham |
The draft took place this
morning at the parade ground, Col. Pelot presiding. The Railroad
Companies, however, left him but little to do. Two companies from the
Central {(of Georgia)} Railroad, commanded
respectively by Captains Millar and Burns, and one company from the
Atlantic & Gulf Railroad, commanded by Capt. Fulton, numbering 223 men,
presented themselves in response to the call of the Governor and were
accepted. Chatham's quota being 300, but 77 men were left to be drafted. |
